This book chapter looks at the new structure of international relations and the global order in the 21st century, and argues that power has shifted from Western well-established powers to middle rising powers from the South. It analyzes the international behavior of rising powers and highlights common features in their foreign policy and diplomacy. The authors also look at the weaknesses, shortcomings and contradictions of rising powers, and highlight the obstacles they encounter in their quest for power and status in international relations.
